Highlights of the year 2006!

  • GCCA won the MCA Fall tournament and brought home the trophy!
  • The Michigan Cricket Association (MCA) hosted the Fall cricket leather ball tournament on October 7th and 8th at Detroit, Michigan. The teams that participated in tournament were as follows:
    Midwest Cricket Association (MWCA) from Illinois
    Michigan Cricket Association (MCA) from Michigan
    Greater Chicago Cricket Association (GCCA) from Illinois

    All the three teams were equally competetive, gave each other a tough fight and exhibited great cricket skills! After losing the opening game to Michigan, GCCA team came back to win the rest of their games to bring home the MCA Tournament Cup!! Each and every kid in the team contributed to this victory. It was especially heartening to see number 10 and number 11 batsmen come in and score some crucial runs in the last over! It was a great team effort and excellent team spirit! This rightly demonstrates our punch lines -
    We keep the spirit of cricket rolling...  and
    We not only build sportsman's skills but also build the sportsman's spirit.

  • GCCA won the tournament hosted by MWCA in Chicago!
  • The Midwest Cricket Association (MWCA) hosted a local cricket tournament on July 28th and 29th. The teams that participated in tournament were as follows:
    Midwest Cricket Association (MWCA) from Illinois
    Michigan Cricket Association (MCA) from Michigan
    Greater Chicago Cricket Association (GCCA) from Illinois

    The games were played between kids of age 15 and under. GCCA won this tournament and all the GCCA kids played very well and demonstrated excellent fielding, batting and bowling skills. GCCA also helped MWCA to organize the tournament by co-hosting it. The parents played a great role by supporting this event enthusiastically and providing all the encouragement.
    Three cheers to GCCA!!!

  • Three GCCA kids selected for the National Cricket League tournament!
  • Three GCCA kids were selected to be part of the Central East team to play in National Cricket League tournament at San Jose, California. The Central East team won 4 out of 5 matches and made to the finals. They lost against the California home team at the finals and received a runner's trophy. The three boys who represented GCCA in the National Cricket League were Neel Lawande, Tanmay Sambare and Aashay Chavan.

  • 2006 Larry Gomes Cricket Camp was a great success, second year in a row!
  • Larry Gomes Coaching Camp became very successful and popular second year in a row! About 25 kids attended the camp and two of them came all the way from North Carolina and Ohio!
    GCCA, second year in a row, successfully hosted this special cricket coaching camp for kids with the former international cricket player Mr. Larry Gomes of West Indies. Mr. Larry Gomes represented West Indies for test as well as one-day international cricket. He is an excellent world-class cricket player and has a fantastic insight into the game due to his international cricket experience. He focused on bringing more accuracy by concentrating on the correct techniques of fielding, bowling and batting. The camp used to start daily with exercise and end with fun filled cricket games.   • GCCA won the tournament hosted by the MCA at Detroit, Michigan!
  • The Michigan Cricket Association (MCA) hosted the Spring cricket leather ball tournament at Detroit, Michigan. The teams that participated in tournament were as follows:
    Midwest Cricket Association (MWCA) from Illinois
    Michigan Cricket Association (MCA) from Michigan
    Greater Chicago Cricket Association (GCCA) from Illinois

    All the kids from the GCCA team demonstrated good skills and sportsman's spirit!

  • GCCA Indoor Session 2006 was well received!
  • The eight week Indoor Session 2006 was well received and 24 kids attended the training. The focus of this coaching was on accuracy and teaching the kids the right technique of the game. It was conducted from January to March.

  • GCCA played a crucial role in getting the 'Cricket Pitch' at the Commissioners Park in Naperville!
  • All the GCCA members including the kids and the parents played a fundamental role in getting the 'Cricket Pitch' at the Commissoners Park. GCCA filed a petition and made presentations to the Mayor at the city hall meetings and convinced them for the need of cricket pitch in Naperville as cricket being one of the fastest growing sports in America. This event was lead by both the coaches - Shirish Joshi and Hemant Chavan. Read about the press release and Naperville Sun Report...

    Highlights of the year 2005

  • GCCA Summer Program 2005 became very popular!
  • More than 30 kids registered to GCCA this summer for 'Leather Ball' and 'Tennis Ball' training sessions. The kids were very enthusiastic for the practices which used to start at 6 a.m. in the morning and last for 3 to 4 hours. At the end of the season, GCCA kids played leather ball games with another team from Bolingbrook.

  • Cricket camp with Larry Gomes - a great success!
  • GCCA successfully hosted a special cricket coaching camp for kids with the former international cricket player Mr. Larry Gomes of West Indies.
    Mr. Larry Gomes represented West Indies for test as well as one-day international cricket.
    This camp was held for five days from July 6 to July 10, 2005.
    Mr. Gomes taught the kids the correct technique of batting, bowling and fielding. He is an excellent world-class cricket player and has a fantastic insight into the game due to his international cricket experience.

  • 2005 Indoor Spring Session: GCCA completed its first indoor spring session with a great success. This session was conducted in the YMCA field house every Sunday for seven weeks. Twenty kids reaped the benefit and improved their skills.
  • 2004: GCCA conducted its second training session in 2004, which started in the spring and extended till fall. The experienced children now started focusing in their areas of interest and enhancing their skills. New faces assured that the cricket sport was gaining popularity!
  • 2004 Season: GCCA also conducted the season cricket training session by introducing the leather ball and season gears to a small group of kids.
  • 2003: GCCA launched its first outdoor training session in the summer of 2003. During this session GCCA introduced the sport of cricket to the naive youth force of Chicago. The children developed a passion for the game, reaped the fun of batting, bowling, and fielding.

Games

As for any sport, after you develop the basic skills, the real fun starts when you play games.
GCCA kids played their first game at the end of the 2003 session with their mothers in the 'Kids verses Moms' game.
GCCA kids grabbed an opportunity to display their skills and team spirit at the end of the 2004 session by playing against the team of Cricket Sporting Academy.
At the end of the 2005 summer season, GGCA kids played a couple of leather ball games with another team from Bolingbrook.

Annual Picnic

Each year GCCA conducted annual picnic for the GCCA members and their families. Parents enjoyed playing the game with the kids at the same time tested their skills.
The kids were given medals and trophies for their hard work and consistency.
